Warrington Museum & Art Gallery

The Manchester Salon is a group of five artists – Lindsey Bull, Maurice Carlin, Daniel Fogarty, Laura Mansfield and Jen Wu – each with diverse practices encompassing curation, sculpture, installation, painting, printmaking and publications.  Formed to develop critical discourses around contemporary arts practice in the region, the Salon invites arts professionals to discuss individual practices in the wider context of working in Manchester and the North West.

In this unique commission, The Salon responds to Warrington Museum by reading the building and its contents as a site of unfolding and endless conversations. The interrelationship between objects and artworks across vast time frames and geographical locations ignites a plethora of possible narratives and points for discussion.

Revolving around a series of free-standing structures, reconfigured from an artwork by Jen Wu, and set amidst a turquoise backdrop re-staged from an event by Daniel Fogarty, the exhibition sees individual Salon members’ works sit beside each other to highlight the diversity of their practices, inviting the viewer to consider the points of connection, association and difference – moving in multiple interpretations and fluctuating dialogues akin to the museum display.

The Manchester Salon will also be delivering guest talks and workshops throughout the festival.

The Manchester Salon is funded by Arts Council England and generously supported by Allan and Jo Melzack and Islington Mill Studios
