Jen Wu creates works using sculpture as a material and social process. Since early 2012, she has been working on The Wall, currently taking place on Chapel Street, Salford. It involves the reconstruction of an 8m high brick wall from the 1920s Old Bank Theatre / Royal Liver Friendly Society building, demolished earlier this year as part of Salford’s urban regeneration.
The process of reclamation and rebuilding is being done through voluntary, manual labour with the support of an evolving local community - here highlighting what is involved in dislocating objects from a place of local significance and function to becoming an artefact or artwork in a museum and gallery.
