Based at the Performing Arts Department of Chester University, Momentum Theatre is made up of three collaborators from a range of backgrounds. The company is interested in exploring performance that draws on improvisation, audience participation and interactivity as well the themes of failure and the definition of performance itself.
This characteristic of introspection can be seen in the titles of their shows, such as ‘The Review’ and ‘The Show’, which was performed at the Buxton Festival Fringe. The group’s most recent piece ‘(V) is-it Chester’ was commissioned by the Chester Film Co-Op and was an ‘interactive (mis)guided tour of Chester’.
In keeping with this year’s theme of time, Momentum will be bringing to the Old Market Place their show ‘Passing Time’; a ‘performative encounter’, in which members of the public are invited to trade their time for the performance of a short story. The several performances will vary in length and number of actors, depending on the audience’s selection, but will be unified by this central theme.
